Ally or Co-Conspirator: Does One White Man’s Past Help Us Think about What is To be Done? :
A book talk by author Susan M. Reverby

Some of us knew about Juneteenth before President Trump, or had read many of the books on the anti-racism syllabi making the rounds.  Many of us have been in the streets over various issues for decades.   Not many of us, however, moved from being an ally in anti-racist struggles to a co-conspirator in some of the most dangerous political actions of the last half-century.  Dr. Alan Berkman (1945-2009) abandoned a possible brilliant medical science career to become a community doctor, an underground bomber, political prisoner of the United States, and then a globally renowned AIDS activist who saved millions of lives.  His life illustrates choices made, rightly and wrongly, on principles we might share but with actions we might abhor.  Does his life journey point the way for us in a new era?
