ISOLATION:INSPIRATION
It has been very challenging for the library to be closed during this time, and our first ever foray into a virtual exhibit is both a celebration and a lament. It is our attempt to address the immediate and consequential while working within the difficult parameters of our extended closure. Work has been submitted by artists all over the Cape, and from as far away as Germany. One of the wonderful aspects of a virtual show is that we’re not limited to the amount of wall space in our meeting room, or the ability of an artist to get their work here, framed and ready to hang.
We asked for submissions of artwork that people were making during these unprecedented times. As such, many submissions reflect loneliness, anxiety, new routines, new realities, many with a deep connection to our natural world.
We also found that some artists wanted to share works that aren’t new but evocative of this time, or of more carefree and less troubled times.
Some artists submitted pieces that are part of bodies of work they have created over time. While these works are not about isolation and the pandemic, they represent the energy and resilience of artists’ need to create and translate what they see and feel.
What has emerged is a wonderful array of images that is a reflection of the energy and resilience of this small town that is full-time and part-time home to so many skilled and creative people.
We are extremely grateful to the artists who submitted work to this, our inaugural virtual exhibit.

If the work is being offered for sale, we have included an email for how to reach the artist.
We hope you enjoy the show!
