Conceived by artist/curators JoAnne McFarland and Sasha Chavchavadze, SALLY is an interdisciplinary, community-centered project focused on using art to activate the public memory of women, like Sally Hemings, whose lives have been erased or marginalized. Begun in Brooklyn in 2019, SALLY galvanizes communities around forgotten history, reaching beyond traditional art audiences, identifying under recognized local and national women, and inviting a broad community response through art exhibitions and related events.
The library was delighted to participate in this exhibit during the summer of 2021 and are proud to continue to host a link to the SALLY Virtual Exhibition, which includes the work of 24 local and national artists, and biographies of women who served as inspiration, including eight Cape Cod women.
